Glazing fundamentals

What belongs in a commercial glazing estimate?

Define what the bid team is buying before measuring. A glass area total does not establish framing, entrances, installation or a complete tender price.

What to check before measurement

  1. List glass, metal and opening/hardware outputs separately.
  2. Mark every scope item included, excluded, by others or unresolved.
  3. Agree whether the brief is quantities only or a priced bid.

A practical bid example

An opening with 120 sq ft of gross area may have several glass make-ups and an entrance door. Keep those designations separate; the gross total cannot be issued as an order quantity.

What the reviewer should receive

An inclusion matrix with source references, measurement basis and the owner of every unresolved interface.

Keep revisions and responsibility visible

Record the source sheet, detail or specification and revision beside the affected item. When information conflicts, leave the affected quantity or price pending and attach a question for the authorised project contact. A blank or unresolved entry must never be silently converted into zero.

Before issuing a revised package, identify changed, removed and added items. Separate measurement corrections from new scope and keep the previous output marked as superseded. The contractor retains final tender review and approval.
