Glazing fundamentals

Glazing takeoff vs. full cost estimate

A takeoff measures scope. A cost estimate applies agreed rates and allowances to that scope. Choose the deliverable that fits your supplier and tender workflow.

What to check before measurement

  1. Identify which quantities need supplier quotations.
  2. Nominate the source and date of labour and material inputs.
  3. Separate freight, tax, waste and access allowances.

A practical bid example

A measured framing length can support a supplier enquiry. Pricing that length also needs the system, finish, stock/cut basis, quotation terms and fabrication responsibility.

What the reviewer should receive

A QTO or priced estimate brief with rate ownership and exclusions stated before work begins.

Keep revisions and responsibility visible

Record the source sheet, detail or specification and revision beside the affected item. When information conflicts, leave the affected quantity or price pending and attach a question for the authorised project contact. A blank or unresolved entry must never be silently converted into zero.

Before issuing a revised package, identify changed, removed and added items. Separate measurement corrections from new scope and keep the previous output marked as superseded. The contractor retains final tender review and approval.
